From Rostkreuz to Ostkreuz – after reconstruction during ongoing operations between 2006 and 2018, Berlin Ostkreuz station presents itself in a new splendor. The water tower in the south and the civil servants' residence in the north are still preserved witnesses to a bygone railway era. After completion, the new Ostkreuz, with its numerous S-Bahn and regional lines, was the busiest station in Germany in 2018 – with 1,512 stops daily. Passenger numbers will continue to grow in the future. Under the motto "More Rail for Berlin and Brandenburg," the i2030 project (https://www.i2030.de/) plans to expand the rail lines in the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan region. An i2030 sign with further information is located on the platform at track 8. Ostkreuz is located on two of the expansion program's eight corridors. Firstly, the platforms along the RE1 line in the West-East corridor (https://www.i2030.de/westost/) will be extended to accommodate longer trains with more seats. Secondly, the Potsdam main line (https://www.i2030.de/suedwest/) will be reactivated, and some of the regional trains running there will run via the Berlin inner ring towards Ostkreuz. To make this possible, the upper regional platform (tracks 13 and 14) will be extended to 220 meters. We demonstrate the challenges that must be overcome in the i2030 project in a video on LinkedIn and Instagram.

In the evenings, there are often few pedestrians, making it easy and fast to ride on sturdy racing bike tires (e.g., GP 5000 AS 28mm). Avoiding obstacles is easy on the grassy median strip (tires must be suitable, and it's best to mount a bell on the bike). Between Landsberger Chaussee and Altentreptower Str., there's a green alternative to Blumberger Damm or the Stendaler/Hellersdorfer/Gülzower Str. road section. I really enjoy riding here.

Great detour. There's a bit of gravel on the road at the moment, but absolutely no problem for a road bike.
