The Rathenow Gate Tower is a tower in the city wall of the old town of Brandenburg in Brandenburg an der Havel. It is one of the eight (and now four) remaining gate towers of the two cities of Brandenburg and is part of the medieval fortifications that once comprised ten gates.

Brandenburg an der Havel is the birthplace of Vicco von Bühlow. In his honor, 27 forest pugs roam the city. We came across this one at the Millennium Bridge.

In his honor and that of his favorite animals, over 20 bronze pugs in cute poses now adorn the cityscape. If you look for them, you'll automatically take a rich tour of the city. Very nice! Of course, more happened in the thousand years, but this is already reported in detail elsewhere. Often the visitor's impression describes the character of a city more than readable facts do. And that's where Brandenburg trumps with its overall layout. Lots of water, lots of green! Yes, the city is not just on the water. It lives with the water. Washed around, flowing through, surrounded by the Havel, lakes and canals. Less sophisticated than nearby Potsdam, which is just as blessed with water, but lively, busy, down-to-earth and full of things to see. Conclusion: Brandenburg an der Havel is not just worth a stop or a detour. It is worth a trip!
