Allersee is located in Wolfsburg's Allerpark and is an artificial lake used for swimming and recreation. It was created in the late 1960s as part of hydraulic engineering works on the Aller River. Today, it is approximately 1.2 kilometers long, about 270 meters wide, and covers roughly 29 hectares of water surface. In addition to a beach and a circular path, there are opportunities for sailing, rowing, and kayaking.

Here in the historic settlement area of (Old) Wolfsburg, stands St. Mary's Church. https://kulturkirche-wolfsburg.wir-e.de/unsere-standorte-st-marien-kirche-und-st-thomas-gemeindehausIt is one of the most historic monuments in the area of the (still young) industrial city of Wolfsburg. The exterior of the church is dominated by the massive tower. Paired round-arched sound openings close off the upper area, which is crowned by a four-sided tent roof with dormers. On the street side in the south, a polygonal staircase is placed in front of the tower, which leads up to the area of the bell tower. The nave has a bright, classicist facade facing the street with symmetrical wall structure. The round-arched, large windows take up the middle part at full height. Two large gate-like entrances flank the window section. Some windows on the south side of the tower take on the emphasized semicircular segments of the facade. The huge, approximately 5m high Rococo epitaph with the theatrical decor of its time was erected to mark the death of the last Bartensleben. The date of death, January 6, 1742, can be read in the seventh line from the bottom. The text in Latin reports on the life of this last count, his wife Anna, his daughter and his son-in-law. Next to it are larger-than-life female figures representing hope (book and anchor) and faith (book and cross). An equally large angel with a trumpet holds a garland over the picture of the deceased. The church has a long organ tradition, as there was such a musical instrument in the St. Mary's Chapel as early as 1564. The St. Mary's Church had an organ from the very beginning (1580). After the Thirty Years' War, its mechanism was damaged. After the trombones and trumpet bass were overhauled in 1666, the organ was repaired again between 1681 and 1686. In this context, the organ was moved to the east side of the church in a choir extension. In 1829, a master Oden completed the interior decoration of the church, which also includes the organ facade that has been preserved to this day. The organ has been electrified since 1922 and has been a listed building since 1944. In 1964, the organ was completely overhauled and its mechanism completely renewed. Today it has 29 voices. In 1927, Count Günther von der Schulenburg commissioned the design of the elongated chapel with a half barrel vault. In this room, which was to be used for confirmation classes, Bible lessons, and children's and secondary services, there is a valuable wooden sculpture, the Pietà from 1410/20. The depiction of the Last Supper (early 20th century) in the side niche comes from Oberammergau. If you would like to find out more about the church and its history, we recommend the St. Mary's Church Guide, which you can get in the parish hall. In it you will find a lot of additional information and images.
