There are great cycling and hiking trails around the lake.

🕊️ The sand martin nesting tower is a special nature conservation project on the border between Neuenkirchen and Wettringen, right in the Offlumer See / Haddorfer Seen recreation area. Since sand martins naturally nest in steep riverbanks or in quarries, which are often missing or built over today, this tower was erected as an artificial nesting aid.

🍦 Highlights along the Milk Trail Lotte, the mascot: On the nine information panels, Lotte the cow explains, especially for children (and curious adults), how milk is produced and why it's so important for the region. Milk houses: Stops at the milk houses (e.g., at the Lölfer or Leifker families' farms) are an absolute must. There you can get fresh milk drinks, quark dishes, and cheese sandwiches directly from the producers. Railway lines: Large sections of the trail follow the flat and comfortable Münsterland Cycle Route.

The lake boasts excellent water quality. Swimming is permitted only at the designated main beach. Entry to the beach and parking are free.

The three red funnel-shaped towers are the lake's unmistakable landmark. They are accessible viewing platforms offering a magnificent view over the entire recreational area, especially popular at sunset.

The Offlumer See near Neuenkirchen is more than just a bathing lake – it is a comprehensive local recreation area that was created from a former sand and gravel extraction area (gravel pit lake) and was opened in 2006.

There's always something new to discover; this time we found a small nativity scene by the roadside.
