In summer, Freibergsee is a great place for swimming, sunbathing, and relaxing. The lake is relatively small, but very clear and clean, which makes it particularly attractive. In winter, it can be used for ice skating when it's cold enough.

A day hike from the Kemptner Hut, it's a fantastic summit experience for families with fit and cautious preschoolers. It took us 3 hours up and 3 hours down.

At the bottom of the lake there are karst springs, which ensure the crystal-clear water and ensure that the lake never freezes over in winter.

The Alpe Dietersbach, located at 1,325 m, invites you to stop for a break. As everywhere in the Alps, there are home-produced foods and, above all, delicious buttermilk cake. 😋 From the Alpe you can start the climb to the Älpelesattel.

We parked our car at the Nordic Center in Oberstdorf and took the Bergsteigerlinie from the Renksteg stop to Spielmannsau. Our 4-day hut tour started there. The first destination from Spielmannsau was the Kemptner Hut through the beautiful Sperrbachtobel.
