This distinctive stone arch bridge spans the narrow junction between the headlands of Eskadawer Point and Doorus Point, right where the river flows into the salty Kilmakilloge Harbour. From the narrow stone ledge, you have a panoramic view of the Kenmare River, with the rugged peaks of the Iveragh Peninsula on the horizon. The road winds low along the water here, offering a peaceful, authentic alternative to the busy Ring of Kerry, complete with views of local mussel farms and bobbing fishing boats.

You'll be treated to one of the Beara Peninsula's most iconic views: the expansive view of Ballydonegan Bay. At the heart of the bay lies the unique white sands of Ballydonegan Beach, whose striking color comes from pulverized quartzite from the nearby Allihies copper mines. As you gaze out over the Atlantic Ocean, the picturesque, colorful houses of the village, nestled among the rugged peaks of the Miskish Mountains, are visible in the distance.

The ruins of the 15th-century O’Mahony Tower stand on the edge of Dunmanus Bay. The castle once guarded the bay and the trade routes along the south coast of West Cork. Today, it stands as a striking, weathered silhouette in the open coastal landscape.

You can take the Cross River Ferry from Glenbrook over the River Lee to Carrigaloe on the other side. It takes just five minutes

The route meanders through green valleys and rolling hills on narrow roads, while views of the sea open up in the distance. It is a route that offers a lot of variety: sometimes it rolls along easily, sometimes the ground is a bit rougher and demands your attention. If you tackle this section, a gravel bike is certainly an advantage to face the bumpy sections in a relaxed manner. The path has a certain originality that makes riding exciting, but also provides occasional breaks - to enjoy the view or use the moment to take a deep breath. There are not many places where you just "drive past". The Beara Way invites you to stop again and again and let yourself be captivated by the landscape - be it through the winding passages between steep rock faces or the small hidden streams that find their way into the valley. A section for those who appreciate a ride off the beaten track and like to feel a touch of adventure.

Just past Lauragh, on the Beara Way and Wild Atlantic Way, this old stone bridge will inevitably make you stop. The lush green of the nearby Derreen Gardens frames the scene, while the water beneath the bridge glistens in the light and Knockatee Mountain stands majestically over the landscape in the background. An ideal place to stop for a moment and put your bike to one side. If you pass through here, it's worth allowing a few extra minutes - not because of the difficulty of the route, but because of the peace that this place exudes. The route itself takes you along narrow, slightly undulating roads that occasionally require full attention but are never overwhelming. A quick glance to the side reveals small bays and densely wooded banks that give the whole thing an almost fairytale character. There are no signs or notices asking you to stop - it's the landscape itself that speaks. And if you're lucky, the rhododendrons will bloom along the path, adding a colorful accent to the green surroundings.

The route takes you over an old stone bridge that elegantly spans calm water - a place that invites you to linger. Here it is worth slowing down and taking a deep breath. The surroundings exude a pleasant calm, with the green hills in the background and the clear, slightly salty scent of the water in the air. You can almost feel the centuries of history that is embedded in the stones of the bridge. As the road continues, the surrounding mountains stand out in the mild light and give the place a special atmosphere. A detour to the shore is worthwhile to explore the small bays and moss-covered rocks up close. Especially in the morning or evening hours, when the sun is low, the landscape shines in a special light - a moment that should definitely be enjoyed. The route is not technically demanding, but there are some undulating sections that require a little attention. It is an ideal passage to clear your head, let your thoughts wander and take in nature in all its simplicity.
