Shaker Lake provides a natural area in the middle of the city, where you can spot wildlife and have a relaxing walk around the lake. The lake was created 185 years ago by damming the Doan Brook to be used by a sawmill. It was donated by the Shaker Heights Land Company in 1895 to the city of Cleveland with the purpose of creating a park.

The Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation is a 4.4 mile long nature preserve along the Cuyahoga River. The Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail runs through the park, so you get a great look at the beautiful green area.

From 1827 to 1913, this path was used for mules to pull canal boats with passengers along the Ohio & Erie Canal. The trail follows the path as closely as possible, with plenty of trails and areas to explore.

Lower Shaker Lake features a scenic 0.44-mile, 10-foot wide asphalt trail between Lower Lake and South Park Boulevard in Shaker Heights. The park, with roots tracing back to the Shakers (1822-1889), includes ravines, lakes, woods, and greenspace. The trail connects to the 6-mile Lake-to-Lakes Trail, enhancing regional recreation and providing a safe, off-road biking route linking North Woodland to North Park Boulevard.

Euclid Creek Reservation, named after the creek that flows through it, boasts wooded hillsides home to rare rock chestnut oaks. The southern part of the reservation is notable for the remnants of the ghost town of Bluestone, where quarrying of the blue-gray siltstone thrived in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The Quarry Picnic Area offers views of the remaining bluestone. Euclid Beach Park, once an amusement park, now features a 650-foot beach with picnic spots, an observation pier, and a pavilion.
