The fortress is one of the best preserved defence works in the Defence Line of Amsterdam. On Sundays from twelve to four o'clock in the afternoon, you can view the fortress from the inside. Not only the fortress grounds themselves, but also the polders around it have hardly changed in the past century. This is still open terrain that can be flooded, the so-called inundation area.

The Marker Museum is housed in six historical houses. The museum provides an image of Marken through changing exhibitions. Part of the museum is furnished as a Marker fishing family lived there until 1932.
