This small town is located right between Pocasset Lake & the larger Androscoggin Lake. As such Wayne sees a lot of visitors during the summer, who flock to the area to enjoy the natural beauty and recreation opportunities.

This small town got its start as an agricultural hun, noted especially for its apple orchards. Though the orchards are still producing these days the town is more often visited for its location on the northern shore of Cobbosseecontee Lake.

Cobbosseecontee Lake, which means "plenty of sturgeon" in Wabanaki, is made up of a number of island, jettys, and glacial coves. Home to the Ladies Delight Light, which is the only inland lighthouse in Maine, Cobbosseecontee is a popular destination for all sorts of outdoor recreation.

Mill Island Park is a great little park in the middle of the Kennebec River. There are picnic area, walking paths, a playground, and more.

This public footbridge was built in the early 1900s with a toll of 1 cent. After less than a year the original bridge was destroyed in a flood and subsequently rebuilt. The toll was also raised to 2 cents, which is where the common name comes from though the official name is still Ticonic Footbridge. These days there is no toll to cross the bridge, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Pond Road runs for several miles between Flying Pond and Desert Pond, passing several other lakes and ponds along the way. It's a relaxing place to go for a ride though some stretches are narrow, so be aware of passing cars.

Running for 6 & 1/2 miles between Augusta & Gardiner, the Kennebec River Rail Trail is a fully paved converted rail line. The path is popular with cyclists, joggers, and walkers so be sure to respect your fellow trail users as you make your way along the river.
