The Max Israel Shelter is a three-sided Adirondack-style shelter located along the Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway (MSG) in southwestern New Hampshire. Situated approximately 37 miles north of Mount Monadnock's summit and about 13 miles south of Mount Sunapee, it serves as a convenient overnight spot for hikers on the 48-mile trail. Nestled within a stand of red spruce trees, the shelter accommodates 4-5 people, with additional space nearby for tent camping. Water can be sourced from a small brook located approximately 0.2 miles before reaching the shelter when approaching from the south.

Washington, New Hampshire, is a quaint and charming town located along the Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway (MSG) trail, offering a convenient and welcoming place for hikers to rest and resupply. About 13.5 miles north of the Crider Forest Shelter, the General Washington Shelter—built in 1983 and the oldest on the trail—provides a natural stopping point. From there, many hikers make the short walk (about a third of a mile) into Washington Center to visit the Washington General Store at 29 North Main Street. This family-owned store has served the community for over 20 years and is known for its hearty breakfast and lunch offerings, including pancakes, local eggs, sandwiches, burgers, and made-to-order pizzas. It also stocks cold beer, wine, local gifts, and essential supplies, making it a one-stop shop for trail users. The store is open Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday until 8 p.m., and Sunday until 4 p.m.

This cute bridge is the smallest covered bridge in New Hampshire. It was built in 1974 and carried road traffic until 1955. Now it can only be crossed by foot, but it makes for a great photo opportunity as it is right next to the road.

The road takes you right past the southwestern edge of McDaniel's Marsh. It is worth pulling into the parking lot to have a proper look at this beauty spot. It's a popular place for boating, so you may also spot people out exploring on the water.

The road cuts through the Saint-Gaudens Historical National Park. It was once the home of the celebrated sculptor, Augustus Saint-Gaudens. The grounds are peppered with casts of his most famous works. If you have time during your ride to look around, it is well worth it. Take the Saint-Gaudens Road to the northwest. If you're just riding through, you pass Blow-Me-Down Pond, a beautiful wetland right next to the road.

The Cornish-Windsor Bridge was built in 1866 and is the longest wooden covered bridge in the country. It's an iconic way to cross the Connecticut River and travel between New Hampshire and Vermont. Despite being nearly 160 years old, it still carries traffic every day. There is a pull-out here, where you can stop and take photos.
