The Martinikerk is the only medieval church in Friesland with an ambulatory. The organ, dating from 1842, was designed by Van Dam. It was restored between 1940 and 1943 according to plans by Herman van der Kloot Meijburg. The church also features the fountain "The Oort Cloud" – one of the 11 fountains in Friesland.

The Martinikerk (St. Martin's Church) is a church building in Franeker in the Dutch province of Friesland. The church building is a national monument. Description Spacious, three-aisled pseudo-basilica, whose side aisles continue as a walkway around the chancel and are covered by wooden vaults. The entrance gate on the east side has a cupola as a keystone and a cartouche crowned with the city's coat of arms, held by two female figures as tenants (1647). The interior brick railing around the chancel dates back to the 15th century. Wall paintings on the pillars. A large number of tombstones, some of which stand upright in the chancel, include some very fine examples from the 16th and 18th centuries. The church, dating from the second half of the 14th century, was originally dedicated to St. Martin. The pseudo-basilica has 30 pillars between the nave and the side aisles and 12 pillars around the chancel. The pillars are decorated with frescoes depicting Saints Dominic, Francis, Luke, James the Greater, Sebastian, Adrian, Hubertus, Roch, Clothilde, Catherine of Alexandria, Saint Margaret, and Apollonia of Alexandria.
