At 123 m long, the church is the longest church in the Netherlands. The western third is built predominantly of brick, the eastern two-thirds predominantly of tuff the size of bricks. Decorations and many window frames are made of ashlar. The Sint Janskerk is especially known for its Gouda stained glass windows (Dutch: de Goudse glazen). About half of all surviving 16th-century stained glass windows in the Netherlands are said to be located here.[1] The most famous Dutch stained glass artists of their time, Dirck Crabeth and his brother Wouter Crabeth, who was 15 years younger, created ten and four of the stained glass windows, respectively, between 1555 and 1577.
