In this area, the Emscher River, which once flowed in a straight channel, was renaturalized, and generous retention basins were constructed. From the newly built, elevated Emscher Cycle Path, there is a beautiful view of the Emscher now meandering along. It's astonishing how quickly nature is reclaiming the terrain. Initially gray and muddy, the area now boasts a green river landscape with grasses, reeds, purple loosestrife, butterflies, and dragonflies. The numerous herons here suggest a healthy fish population.
