self service cafe, make your own coffee, lovely cakes and a honesty box. quirky decor. really lovely place. If you are lucky enough to meet the owner, she is lovely to.

This place is a gem. A bit of an oasis in a desert if you are on your bike and want a hot drink or to fill your water bottles. It is an honesty cafe in a house opposite Moduron Hafod Garage. Especially helpful if you are doing the Trans Cambrian Way in 3 days, just stay on the road at Ysbyty Ystwyth and drop down to Pont-rhyd-y-groes. You will have to climb back up to rejoin the route though (Hafodty road is most direct but steep!)

The downhill stretch of the road is now almost completely washed away. So there is no descent to be had on the bike. If you're on a full suspension bike it might just be doable but anything else - or bikepacking - you'll be walking.

The Craig Goch Dam, often called the Top dam, is a masonry dam in the Elan Valley of Wales and creates the upper-most of the Elan Valley Reservoirs. Construction on the dam began in 1897, and it was completed in 1904. The primary purpose of the dam and the other reservoirs is to supply Birmingham with water. In 1997, a 480 kW hydroelectric generator began operation at the dam.

A very rocky steep descent, be wary on gravel bikes

Seems to be a victim of Arwen + 4x4s with big gullies that could end your career and really rough slate undressed surface. The initial ramp southward is just about unrideable. I'd say this is mountain bike only at this point, though an unloaded gravel bike might stand a chance. Great once you reach the top if heading south. See the last photos on this highlight for the condition in June 24.

Sometimes too deep to cross. Handy bridges if you don't want wet feet!

Lot of speed down the Mohican Rd. Just make sure to stay on the same side of the river and enter the forest left if following the Trans Cambrian Way. Some people make the mistake of crossing the river over the footbridge right and going via the tarmac. That's cheatin'

great bothy, well kept and in a good location

This is a beautiful stretch of about 6 miles, with smooth gravel and open views. There's a short section of horrible road to get to Tregaron at the end but nothing too desperate (such a shame they haven't invested and extended this right into town!).

Beautiful valley roads and relatively gentle gradients to this beauty spot. Can be windy and exposed, but otherwise a lovely place to stop.

Cors Caron National Nature Reserve is a vast area of wetland filling the broad valley of the River Teifi. It offers great gravel paths off the main road if you have the bike for it. Or lock your bike up and go for a walk along the boardwalks to look for wildlife.

The new water wheel was erected in 2009 as part of a restoration project. It's on the location of one of the original wheels of the Lisburne mine back in the 1850’s. Cafe opposite!

Old railway gravel track through Cors Caron National Nature Reserve. Part of Sustrans Route 82 of the National Cycle Network runs in sections between Bangor and Fishguard.

Coffee shop in the old Tregaron Bank

This rubble stone Gothic arch was built over the old turnpike road, to celebrate the golden jubilee of King George III in 1810. The road was then the main road from Aberystwyth to London and it ran through the arch until only a couple of years ago.

Great cycle path running through the reserve. Nice for watching the bird life.
