Stunning spot!

No bridge so impassible on foot or by bike after rain.

There is a good car park at Clatteringshaws by the Loch of the same name but sadly the Visitor Cenre and Toilets are now permanently closed. This is a good place to visit Bruce's Stone (One of many) and for walks up Benniguinea and Cairnsmore.

There are a number of waymarked trails in this beautiful woodland. All are worth following for a scenic and enjoyable hike in scenic surrounds

In the middle of Dalbeattie forest is the Heart Stane - a huge chunk of local granite carved into a heart. It's at the top of a hill but the quickly growing trees prevent any long distance views

There's a path with a fingerpost from the north, or lots of little routes though the trees to the south to access the top of this hill. It's interesting not just for the trig point and views, but also to see the slow rewinding process take hold as young deciduous trees are slowly expanding across this area
