The Twister is a popular red graded singletrack trail within Kirroughtree Forest. It's about 0.5 miles (1km) and slightly uphill overall.

The steep climb to Murray's Monument rewards you with stunning views of Galloway and beyond. Erected in 1835 in memory of Alexander Murray, a local shepherd who became a Professor at Edinburgh University, the monument offers panoramic vistas of the valley and Cairnsmore of Fleet. Nearby, you can also see the remains of Dunkitterick Cottage, Murray's birthplace.

The Southern Upland Way long distance trail runs through the forest south of Loch Trool. Some sections of the trail walk along the shoreline, allowing easy access to the beaches and great views. You can see Glen Trool Lodge on the far bank.

This well constructed gravel track feels a million miles from civilisation, and the views over loch and mountain are superb

Between the forest and the waterfront is some superb singletrack. Its shared with the Southern Upland way and isn't a dedicated MTB trail, so be respectful of other trail users

This section starts off in the woods with a couple of burn crossings, then out on to open moorland. It can be twisty, but flows well and makes a really nice descent

This is a lovely flowing singletrack descent shared by the red and blue routes
