Callbach was early in political and religious respects closely connected with Meisenheim, as it belonged both to the Velden (from 1444 Pfalz-Zweibrücken) Ausamt and to the parish Meisenheim. The latter had been transferred to the Order of St. John in 1321, and it was not surprising that the construction of the first chapel in Callbach in 1334 was a member of this brotherhood, the native of the place Konrad called Roserlup to thank. This first sacred building was replaced in 1546-1553 by a second, which stood for over 200 years, and served after 1588 as a Reformed church. The chapel was allowed to use the Franciscans (as in all branches of Meisenheim) for the Kasualien (baptism, wedding, funeral) from 1719, but this should hardly have had an effect in practice, since the share of Reformierten in Callbach 1757 was well 92% ,
