The Martello refuge (or Marteller Hütte in German) is located at about 2,160 meters above sea level, at the top of the Val Martello and well inside the Stelvio National Park. Being surrounded by 15 peaks over 3,000 meters, it is a true panoramic point. You can book a night in the mountains on the refuge's website: https://www.martellerhuette.com/it/.

The refuge was built between 1909 and 1911, but underwent modernizations and renovations over time. The refuge today has several rooms for sleeping and numerous places at the table.

The Martello refuge (Marteller Hütte) is located at 2,610 meters above sea level, in the Stelvio National Park. The landscape that surrounds it is dotted with peaks that exceed 3,000 meters above sea level. Once you reach the refuge you can delight yourself with exquisite traditional South Tyrolean dishes.

The Mantova al Vioz refuge is located at 3,535 meters above sea level. From here starts the ridge that leads to the mountain of the same name. It was built between 1909 and 1911 and during the First World War it was used as a military base. The shelter has 57 beds. Near the reception structure there is also a small brick church.

Beautiful view from the terrace. Huttenwaard Bruno is very nice and clearly does his work with passion. He also guides tours and works at the Bergrettung. Tasty food, lots of choice, also vegetarian.

Easy to reach panoramic mountain at over 3200m with a view of the Königsspitze and the Ortles. No glacier crossings are necessary and the path is easy to walk on. Last snowfields possible until the beginning of August. Simply follow the path in the direction of the Casatihütte and then turn right onto path no. 41 in the direction of the Madritschspitze.

In my collection of the highest "hiking peaks" of every Alpine country, Monte Vioz has replaced Rocchiamelone (and Punta Rossa del Grivola) for Italy. A higher peak that can be reached "hiking" [for me that means without glacier equipment and with a maximum of short, not too exposed climbing sections in the 1st degree] should not be found anywhere in Italy [if you know one, please message me! 🙂]. For my criterion, the only option was to leave the valley without a cable car, since it's almost 2,000 meters of ascent and descent. In addition, I wanted to take the Punta Linke with me as the 19th peak over 3500 m [in the meantime there are 21 😉]. At the end of September, the cable car and hut were already closed, but in good weather the summit could still be (almost) snow-free. Although you always have to be aware that there can be a lot of snow at this height, even in midsummer - the much-cited "alpine experience" is always recommended, despite the comparatively easy path (T3+) for the height.
