I found the tunnel to be very large, well lit and with perfect asphalt. For transit it is better to have front and rear lights and perhaps even a reflective jacket. When you are overtaken by a vehicle the noise echoes in your ears, very annoying.

Small town, here are the spas but above all the famous Crodino, very good to drink.

On the Sempione road, towards Crevoladossola, before the San Giovanni tunnel, you can admire the Roman bridge over the Diveria, called Ponte Nuovo because it was built around 1300 AD. It was intended to replace another bridge built by Augustus, which was destroyed by flooding from the torrent and whose remains can still be admired today in the middle of the river immediately after the tunnel.

Varzo is a small town near the Simplon Pass, from here you can leave for a beautiful tour in the direction of San Domenico or Trasquera.

Tourist and ski resort, full of services. The road is narrow at times and many cars and even buses can pass, so be careful when going downhill. For those who have a sturdy bike, wide tires and excellent brakes, you could risk the climb towards Alpe Veglia, a wide dirt road not suitable for classic cycle touring bikes.
