It is a unique place of its kind. In a rather small and circumscribed area 2 steps from the Montalto lake (also called "Rabbit" lake) there is an area with a very dark soil composed of water, peat, earth and medium-sized trees. Especially when the ground is wet or it has rained previously if you jump on the surface, it moves creating small waves making the surrounding trees dance. A real show! You can reach the dancing lands from 2 different dirt tracks. For those with good technical skills the entry or exit paths in both directions are also fun to pedal.

This church on the outskirts of Montalto Dora, the “Cappella di Santa Croce”, is dedicated to the Holy Cross. The patronage refers to the cross on which Jesus Christ died on Golgotha. The veneration of the Holy Cross goes back to a large extent to Saint Helena, who was the mother of Emperor Constantine the Great (who recognized Christianity as a religion after his victory at the “Milvian Bridge” in front of Rome and in the year 312 for a long time the persecution ended with the “tolerance edict” of Milan). In the early fourth century she undertook a pilgrimage to the Holy Land (Israel / Palestine) and from there brought numerous relics with her to Europe, including the "True Cross" on which Jesus Christ was crucified. Helena is therefore often depicted with a cross as an attribute. The church celebrates the festival of the discovery, public presentation and veneration of the Holy Cross – called “Exaltation of the Cross” – on September 14th.

The gate tower dates back to the 13th century. Originally it had two passage arches, carriage and pedestrian, equipped with drawbridges operated by levers that emerged from the three obvious slits. The upper part was open and crenellated. Not far away, in the square, there is a contemporary corner tower of the medieval city wall. Some well-signposted circular pedestrian routes start from the adjacent square (we recommend the IV which passes through Gesiùn).
