Huge site that is steeped with history.

The dovecote was built around the time that William Dunch purchased the estate in 1551. Dunch bought the estate because of an interest in ancient monuments such as the Avebury stone circles. Such a beautifully preserved village. It's bizarre that they put a road straight through it though.

A stunning little walk around the beautiful little village of Avebury home of the world's largest Neolithic stone circle along with stone avenues and ancient tombs. Much of Avebury and the surrounding landscape is owned and cared for by the National Trust and is free to explore for everyone all year round.

Moderate trail for all to explore the history it has to offer.

Easy part of the trail with amazing history.

A great climb that is fairly amenable in the gradient... it goes on for a fair bit though. Would be a good training ground for those wish to get into longer, harder climbs.

Often referred to as Britain's oldest road, the Ridgeway is an ancient route that has been used since prehistory. It stretches from Avebury to Ivinghoe Beacon while this section stretches from Overton Down to Barbury Castle, an Iron Age hillfort. Sweeping grassland, open views and a sense of walking in ancient footsteps, this is a majestic trail.
