Absolutely stunning forested pathway! Accessible both in winter (even after snow! I hiked here through a good few inches of snow once). And, it's good for warmer weather, providing plenty of shade. I would, personally, avoid the height of summer, it's SO busy & people fight for parking (plus... the heat am-i-rite). But, spring, Autumn is just gorgeous. It is really pretty here, and it is 100% worth walking away from Castle Combe village, a lot of people don't, and they miss these stunning surroundings (yes, the village itself is absolutely gorgeous, too!)

May 2024. Starts well, but turns to rutted swamp for about a km in the middle. expect to get wet. I hate Motos

If you want to take beautiful pictures, you should be an early riser! Photos without people are difficult to take. Nevertheless, the way to the ancient place is worthwhile.

In place of the old village pound, this bench was erected to commemorate the silver jubilee

Since its original foundations in the 13th century, St Andrews has been added to over the years, including a 14th-century nave, a 16th-century tower, and extensive rebuilding in 1850 after the building fell into disrepair. The tower boasts an impressive fan-vaulted ceiling, while the base of the tower houses one of the oldest working faceless medieval clocks in the country.

Along with nearby Burton Brook, Broadmead Brook is a tributary of Bybrook - a larger river that runs past Castle Combe village. Winding its way along a steep-sided, wooded valley, it's a beautiful walk, although liable to flood in winter.

Castle Combe is simply a lovely and rather picturesque Cotswolds village, with some locations well-known from popular tv programs and movies.

Castle Combe is often hailed as the ‘prettiest village in England.' Situated within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the quintessentially English village has regularly been used as a filming location in movies. The village boasts 13th-century architecture and places to grab a tasty treat.

A great track out of the lovely village of West Kington. Might be a bit of a challenge in the winter.

Lovely cafe that is tucked out of the way. Very pleasant staff and really good coffee, which was so welcome on a very cold and damp day. Seek it out... it's worth it for the coffee alone! (See my photo... it's accessed via the gap between the buildings on the left).

Stunning village and it’s where Steven Spielberg filmed Warhorse. Definitely worth a stop.

Heading W to E its Hardpack through the woods with just a couple of churned up muddy patches then a mini-bridge over a stream (which would be a lovely place for a paddle and cool off). You’re then onto tracks through fields which can get a little bumpy. Great option for CX/gravel
