Great Day Out on Sailsbury Plain

The Caen Hill Locks are one of the highlights of Route 4 on the Avon K Canal. Physically this is interesting. The water flows down the mountain, but the ship floats up the mountain lock by lock due to its own buoyancy.

The land south of the village of Erlestoke was used as a location in the 2018 film '1917' set during the second world war. During filming, deep trenches were dug into to the landscape to replicate WW1 scenes. Cheverell Hill Farm, passed on the bridleway between Great Cherverill and the Imber Range Perimiter Path, was once a working farm but is now used by the military.

Some great single track through the woods. A few tree roots, some ups and downs. Nice dry chalk. Well worth a detour.
