Bridge No 163 on the Kennet and Avon Canal.

The Caen Hill Locks are one of the highlights of Route 4 on the Avon K Canal. Physically this is interesting. The water flows down the mountain, but the ship floats up the mountain lock by lock due to its own buoyancy.

The Kennet and Avon Canal flows from Bristol to Reading. This section east of Trowbridge is a narrow, mostly singletrack gravel tow path that follows the very edge of the canal. There are normally a few boats around and you're likely to meet some cyclists/dog walkers/ other runners but it's normally quiet and good for some fast running if you fancy it.

A great section of the Kennet and Avon Canal towpath between Bradford on Avon and Trowbridge. The trail is flat, gravely and quieter than the section from Bradford to Avoncliff. It does still get fairly busy with walkers and cyclists though so best early or later in the day.

The Kennet and Avon Canal is a waterway comprising two sections of navigable river linked by a section of canal. It travels through gorgeous countryside and vibrant urban areas, beginning in Bristol and finishing in Reading. This stretch of the canal is exceptionally pretty, with colourful narrowboats, vibrant hedges and even the odd kingfisher flitting around.
