These Gardens face the sea, harbour and Cobb from behind the major stabilisation works completed in 2007. The Gardens offer splendid views to sea and east to the spectacular Jurrassic Coast reaching to Portland on a clear day and encompassing Golden Cap, the highest point on the South Coast of England. The Gardens had to be completely restored as the stabilisation works were of such a scale that the previous gardens were totally destroyed. This is because the underlying geology of Lyme Regis is rather unstable with blocks of land sliding about as seen between Lyme and Charmouth. This instability exists in the town itself and means that a constant watch must be kept for movement, but the Langmoor and Lister Gardens are stable for now thanks to the massive scale of the work undertaken. The Langmoor and Lister Gardens in the heart of Lyme Regis have been home to the Sculpture Trail since 2015. Perched above the beach, with far-reaching views to the Cobb and coastline beyond, the gardens provide a perfect outdoor gallery for a range of contemporary sculptures by local artists. Selected each year from established and upcoming artists, the artworks are chosen to represent a cross-section of the visual arts encompassing different materials and styles. The Town Council aims to enhance the natural beauty of the gardens and wider landscape through providing a creative experience for visitors.

Wonderfully restored old town mill. well worth the visit

Town Mill, a watermill dating from 1340, has been restored to working order and produces flour.It is powered by water from the River Lym via a leat running along a lynch. The Domesday Book records a mill at Lyme in 1086, so the site could be much older. Town Mill Brewery opened in part of the mill in March 2010. This ancient watermill, set in the artisan quarter of Lyme Regis, was rescued from dereliction by local volunteers, through a ten-year restoration project and is now run as a small charitable trust. Today, the unique and intriguing story of The Town Mill is recounted by our volunteer millers who mill stoneground wholemeal flour, and keep this special place open for everyone to enjoy. Nestled around a cobbled courtyard, the restored mill buildings house a working watermill and mill shop, art gallery, as well as a selection of creative, artisan businesses. When the Mill is open, you are able to view inside and visit all three floors including the working waterwheel. You can do this self guided and at your own pace. We have lots of information available on the history, restoration and current day working of the Mill and a volunteer Miller will often be available to talk to you during your visit and demonstrate our traditional flour milling process. There is no charge for a self guided view of the Mill, we just ask for donations to help us to keep our Mill open and the water wheel turning for visitors to enjoy. No need to book, come along to the Town Mill Shop & Mill entrance, located in our courtyard and one of our friendly volunteers will be on hand to welcome you for a look around!
