Great for a road bike. Quiet route. View on fields.

Great paved cycleway following the Aire and Calver Navigation Path out of Leeds. The path travels all the way from the centre of the city toward Castleford and there are lots of great sites to see along the way including Skelton Lake and St Aidan's reserve.

Nearby is Towton, the site of the War of the Roses battle, believed to be bloodiest in English history and which brought the Wars of the Roses to an end in 1461. Ten thousand men are said to have been killed and Cock Beck, the little stream which you cross to get to St Mary's, is said to have run red with blood.

The northern bank of the River Wharfe holds a rich history of horse racing. The present-day Racecourse is situated upon land that once belonged to the Montagu family of Ingmanthorpe Hall. This expanse of land was leased to the race committee, with the inaugural meeting taking place on the 30th of March 1891. Starting in 1906, the committee embarked on a journey to enhance the course's amenities, commencing with the construction of the enduring 'Bramham' Grandstand – an edifice that stands resolute to this day.

Free repair station with bike stand, plenty of tools: Spanners, Allen keys, Screwdrivers, Track pump.

Nothing technical around here but good trails and not too hilly. You can follow the canal into Leeds or Temple Newsam or take the Linesway up to Garforth. Lots of options available.

Tunnel closed due to concerns of falling masonry. Possibly closed for 6 months from the 6th Dec. 2021. There is a good cyclable path at the side.

Nice little MTB (bridleway) section through Saw Wood.

A great way to get your MTB kick without travelling, and there’s a pub at the bottom! Top Tip: Be careful and stay safe! There’s not much phone service so if you injure yourself it’s hard to contact anyone. I advise you tell someone where you are before riding this full speed, but you should probably do that before any ride anyway! There is a pub at the bottom if you need any help.

I rode this and using the Komoot app for the first time. Battery ran out on the way home so does not show the full route. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Great cafe in Bolton Percy called Doyly's and plenty of space to put your bike where you can see them. Best purchase we have made in a long time, it has opened the joy of cycling up even more for us.
