Since the lighthouse is associated with the literary work of Virginia Woolf: Tilman Spengler is the man on German television who brings great authors and their works closer to culturally interested viewers. His series "Classics of World Literature" pays tribute to writers from all eras with a 15-minute episode (in German). One of these writers is Virginia Woolf (1882–1941). Great cliff top view but climb is not too challenging.

Mexico Towans is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). It is named after 'towans', the Cornish word for sand dunes and possibly the tin mine, Wheal Mexico, but no one knows for sure. After the collapse of the mining industry, many miners emigrated to Mexico so this may also be a link.

Hayle Towans beach is the most westerly part of the vast expanse of sand that stretches for three miles to Godrevy in the west. It is backed by beautiful sand dunes and welcomes dogs all year round if you have a pooch with you who likes to let off steam while you run.

The seals at Mutton Cove are easiest to spot at low tide when they're out of the water on the beach. But even at high tide you are likely to be able to see their heads bobbing in the water. Look for grey, buoy-like objects in the water.

The coast path passes tantalising close to the huge St Ives Bay which stretches from here at Godrevy ad Gwithian all the way to St Ives Head in the east.
