Truthall Halt on the Helston branch was opened on 3 July 1905. It's now the terminus of the volunteer run Helston Railway. Well worth a trip, especially with the kids :)

Helston Railway is the UK's most southerly railway and is now operated by the Helston Railway Preservation Company. From around March to October, a small passenger train runs along the old track for about 1 mile. Originally opened in 1887 to connect Helston to the main railway line from London to Penzance; the line mainly used to carry agricultural goods. The track ceased operations in 1965. Helston Railway Preservation Society worked hard to re-open a part of the railway, which has been running a passenger service since 2011.

Interesting stone monuments on the Green

These are the remains of the engine house of the Leeds Shaft, part of the Great Work colliery, one of Cornwall's first and most famous mines. It started in 1538 and was located between Godolphin Hill and Tregonning Hill.

Mine dating from the 16th Century. Major tin producer in the 19th century. The workings occupy the saddle between Godolphin Hill and Tregonning Hill. One of the local mines that would have contributed to the building and maintenance of Godolphin House.

A mile or so of restored track with working engine and two carriages: good fun for kids and nostalgic adults but check opening times.
