A wonderful city full of books. Despite the many tourists and narrow alleys, it has a relaxed atmosphere. Simply beautiful.

Large hollow oak estimated to be 800-900 years old.

Constructed between 1838 and 1842 by the Maesllwych Estate, Boughrood Bridge was a toll bridge established to enhance the transportation of coal, coke, and lime from Radnorshire to Brecon. It replaced the previous ford and ferry. Toll collection ceased in 1934.

Beautiful quiet lanes in a secluded valley near the source of the River Arrow.

Single lane bridge but there are little refuges above the piers where you can pause to admire the view out of the way of any vehicles crossing.

A lovely route between the Edw and Arrow Valleys. A short sharp climb from the west, longer and gentler from the east.

Stunning views , lovely old tollway

Ancient holy well named after St Cynidr. The early 20th century structure around the well is dedicated to Walter Fenwick de Winton.

The ruins of Abergavenny Castle (Castell y Fenni) stand testament to a turbulent history. It was said that the castle "has been oftner stain'd with the infamy of treachery, than any other castle in Wales." It's now free and somewhat safer to enter.

The pretty clocktower in Hay-on-Wye was built in 1881, costing £600, which seems good value these days. If you think you've seen it before, it is the same design as the clock tower in Knighton, a border town about 20 miles north of Hay.

Really cool historical site to visit. Has plaques on the inside that talk about the history of the place and put it into context. Beautiful views behind and looks great from up on the ridge.

Hay-On-Wye is an old market town which lies on the south-east bank of the River Wye and within the north east tip of the Brecon Beacons and just north of the Black Mountains. The town, often referred to as the "town of books" has two dozen bookshops and hosts the annual literary festival - Hay Festival. With year round tourism the town has plenty of delicious cafes and pubs / restaurants to choose from. Be sure to explore the town before passing through.
