On a hill stands the cemetery church of St. George, featuring a stork's nest depicted in Merian's engraving of 1644. The nest on the church has become, alongside the town's coat of arms, a second symbol of the town. The church tower is Romanesque, while the church itself is Baroque. The high altar, donated in 1759, and probably also the south side altar, were crafted by H.A. Croneiß. Built in the early Renaissance period between 1539 and 1543, the Old Town Hall is today the landmark of the city of Weiden. A town hall stood here as early as 1400, but burned down to its foundations in 1536. While the new town hall, subsequently constructed by master builder Hans Nopl, served the administration on the upper floors, the ground floor housed sixteen shops. Since the construction of the New Town Hall in 1978, a city council meeting has been held here only once a year. It is also used for weddings and special receptions. Shops still house the ground floor today. A remarkable carillon chimes daily at 11:35 a.m. and 4:35 p.m.
