The monument was unveiled in 1985 on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the city of Recz. It is meant to symbolize Recz's belonging to Poland, although in reality it has never been Polish in the past.

The Drawieńska Tower was built in the 14th century and then expanded in the 15th century. It stood directly next to the Stone Gate and reinforced the eastern entrance to the city. In the 17th century, the gate was burned down and then dismantled. Only the tower survived.
