Dating back to the 14th century, a stone gate 15 meters high was the starting point for wanderers heading east. This way led the route to Drawsko, which was a section of the so-called "Polish way". The same route in the 13th century Recz was followed by armies of knights on crusades organized by the knights of Germany, France and England to the territories of Prussia, Lithuania and Samogitia. On this trail, there are traces of the Templars, the Teutonic Knights and, for example, the Knights of St. John. This route partly coincided with the famous trade route "Via Marchonis" or "Margrave Road" leading from Berlin to Königsberg and the modern European Cistercian Route

The Drawieńska Tower was built in the 14th century and then expanded in the 15th century. It stood directly next to the Stone Gate and reinforced the eastern entrance to the city. In the 17th century, the gate was burned down and then dismantled. Only the tower survived.
