This church is located next to the city walls and, together with the church of San Juan Bautista, formed the fortified area that protected the medieval town.

Between 1200 BC and 250 BC this town was the most important in the area we know today as Rioja Alavesa. The town was structured into streets and squares and was the most populated in the area. In addition to the excavations of the archaeological site, there is a small museum.

El Ciego is an exemplary municipality in the province of Logroño as it is surrounded by cultivated vineyards and a set of wine cellars. Surrounding it are the fields of vineyards that offer a landscape archetype typical of this area.
