Old water well, perhaps still in use, as warning “not for drinking”

The castle of Ampudia, the most important and best preserved in Palencia. Built between the 13th and 15th centuries in the Gothic style, it has a trapezoidal plan and three square corner towers. The keep stands out. Its symmetrical façade is decorated with Flemish scaraguaitas and a coat of arms of the Duke of Lerma. In addition, it was the place where the document that changed the capital from Valladolid to Madrid was signed.

One of the jewels of the Tierra de Campos regions in Palencia, the historic cultural city of Ampudia is a must-see. With an impressive castle and heritage townscape.

This special zone for the protection of birds located to the south-west of Palencia is part of a project to recover a wetland that covered 5000ha (currently it barely reaches 400ha). Drying of the wetland was done on purpose in the 1960s to open up new farmland.

These buildings known as dovecotes are typical of Tierra de Campos. Part of its buildings are still made of adobe and mud, traditional materials in the region.

Old flour factory built in 1844 and, until 1894, it belonged to various tenants or owners in charge of exploiting its use. In the 20th century it suffered a fire that meant its end as a flour factory to be used as a hydroelectric power station.
