Wonderful path surrounded by nature along the Biedano stream. From Barbarano Romano to Blera among caves, bridges, waterfalls, ferns, mosses and lots of greenery. Easy route suitable for everyone.

The Path of the Three Cities through the Parco Marturanum is really recommended if you like a bit of adventure. For us it was easy to walk on as long as you actually stayed on the path. A white/red marking shows the way. A constant gentle up and down, where you now and then have to cross the stream over stones. There are several old bridges and buildings to explore.

May 2023 - the path is not really developed but rather a wild path - so go on the adventure with long pants and sturdy shoes. My tip would be to go to the ruins of the third mill. It is an ancient dam with two breakthroughs and therefore two waterfalls. Carefully go over the wall (!) Crashing wouldn't be a good idea...then go right. into the ancient man-made aqueduct. The tunnel is over 2 meters high and was probably a regulated inflow/outflow from the mill. The top highlight of this valley.

If you walk the steep cobblestones through the "Porta Canale" gate to the Marutarum Park and want to continue the valley, then you should have sturdy shoes with you. The path is a bit hidden coming from the city BEFORE the bridge turn right and then after a few meters follow the path to the left. Take mosquito repellent with you from June.

Beautiful old clock tower "Porta Romana e torre dell'orologio". It serves as a city gate with a wall. Access to the old town with a nice bar "Arcanum Osteria - Caffetteria, Ristorante & Cocktail Bar". The tower is the eye-catcher and the first highlight in Barbano. The Porta Romana dates from the mid-15th century when the city extended beyond the castle walls. Two towers were added to the gate and aedicule and clocks added in 1863. As you walk through, you enter another time, immersed in an almost surreal stillness. From there, briefly on the following street and after a few meters turning left, you enter through another gate, starting with steep cobblestones, the way, the regional park Marturanum. I want to call it the valley of the 3 mills. Almost like stepping into the fairy tale of Alice in Wonderland. Excellent!

A very interesting tombstone dating between the 4th and the 3rd century B.C. On one of the main walls, you can see the engraving of a wolf attacking a deer (at least that is one of several interpretations). You may recognize this scene, as it is what inspired the official park logo.

Unfortunately we were unable to go beyond the first kilometer as the path was completely invaded by too tall and stinging plants that did not allow us to see where our feet were resting which led us to a close encounter with a snake.
