One of the most popular routes to reach Pico La Era begins in the village of Los Marines. This route is relatively easy and has a distance of about 4.3 kilometres, with a maximum gradient of 161 metres. Along the way, hikers can enjoy the typical vegetation of the area, including chestnut trees, holm oaks and strawberry trees. From the top of the peak, you can admire impressive panoramic views, including the geodesic vertex that marks the highest point.

There is an impressive century-old elm tree in the center of the town. You can also refresh yourself and possibly eat something in one of the two bars in the square.

Los Marines owes its name to a visit by King Philip II to the municipality, in which a town resident asked him if he was so powerful, why didn't he bring the sea to the town. Philip II replied: "I will not bring the sea, but you will be sailors" and since then all the young men of the town served in the military in the Huelva marina. The municipality's economy is based mainly on the production of chestnuts and to a lesser extent on pig farming.

The town of Cortelacía is home to the Parroquia Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios, which is located in the main square where the town hall is also located. The center is in the old middle of the Picos de Aroche.
