The Fitero Bridge, also known as the Itero Bridge, is a historic 11th-century Romanesque construction that crosses the Pisuerga River and connects the towns of Itero de la Vega (Palencia) and Itero del Castillo (Burgos). This bridge marks the provincial border between Palencia and Burgos, and was also formerly the border between the kingdoms of Castile and León.

As you pass the old hospital and cross the bridge over Rio Pisuerga, you reach the old stone marking the start of the a new province, and an information board showing the route.

A lovely ruined monastery you pass shortly before reaching Castrojeriz, where you can choose to spend the night in the very basic pilgrims hostel. There is also a small gift/tea stall where you can rest and admire the ruins.

A fabulous old town with cobbled streets, that partly lies around the base of the hill on the top of which lies the prominent ruins of an ancient castle. The town was first granted a charter in 974, and may then have been called Castrum Sigerici. However there are bronze age findings there dating back to 1500 BC, and it is believed Augustas built the Roman fort Sisaraca on the hilltop. Several nice albergues and bars in the town.

A museum has now been set up in this church, which pilgrims can visit for 1€. Here, visitors also receive a stamp and can pray at a high altar.
