The Hermitage of the Virgen de la Ola is a Marian sanctuary located in Peramán, an old hamlet in the municipality of Bárboles in the valley of the Jalón River. Built in the 17th century, it has a rectangular floor plan. Its exterior has been renovated with exposed brick and has a small tower without bells. It is located on the banks of the Jalón River and is a place of Marian devotion.

Nice road with very little traffic and a good pleasant dream to take after driving on the Loma Negra and leaving the Bardenas.

Gallur is an agricultural enclave in Zaragoza on the banks of the Ebro and the imperial channel of Aragon. As it passes through the town, the river appears imposing. Its surroundings are extensively cultivated with corn and cereals.

The hermitage of the Virgen de la Ola is the church of the disappeared town of Peramán (whose name is still used to name the area). There are hardly any remains of the disappeared town, but the hermitage has been marked on maps since the 17th century at least. The current building is surely the result of several reconstructions during the last two centuries. (http://www.sipca.es/censo/1-INM-ZAR-015-043-003/Ermita/de/la/Virgen/de/la/Ola.html)

We are in Tauste, in the Cinco Villas region of the province of Zaragoza. We highlight the pre-Roman site of Valdetaus, which is located on the outskirts of Tauste or the religious heritage of the Aragonese town, such as the Mudejar church of Santa María located on a hill at the top of the town, the church of San Antón Abad or the Monastery of Saint George.

The hermitage of the Virgen de la Ola is a 17th-century sanctuary located in the uninhabited Peramán, on the banks of the Jalón River. It is a temple with a rectangular floor plan, which has a very renovated exterior, with exposed brick, and a small tower at the foot without bells. The tradition of Nª Sª de la Ola considers that this construction could be built on the ruins of the old medieval monastery of the Order of Fontevrault, where the image of the Virgin Mary was found. This had been dragged by the strong waves of the Jalón River, hence, it is known as the Virgin of the Wave. The interior of the hermitage, with sober decoration, housed in the presbytery the carving of the Virgen de la Ola from the 14th century. However, the original figure is going to disappear as a result of a theft, so the current size is from a recent factory. All this makes this hermitage one of the two main pilgrimage points of the Ribera Alta del Ebro. Every year the residents of Bárboles, Grisén and Pinseque make a pilgrimage during the month of May to this sanctuary to honor the Virgin

A curve of the river Jalón, in which there is a dam, joins the Puente de Tablas de Grisén with the Hermitage of the Virgen de la Ola, in Peramán. From Grisén, once you have crossed the river over the narrow bridge (dismounting is recommended, we are not in a hurry), a stretch of trail begins through the river grove, as unknown as it is evocative. Zigzagging between trees we walk until we reach a path that borders an area of crops and, turning to the left, we arrive in a few hundred meters at the Hermitage of the Virgen de la Ola. It is a modest brick building built in the 17th century, and it is the only architectural remains of the old town of Peramán, now disappeared. (https://turismoriberaaltadelebro.es/catalogo/ermita-de-la-virgen-de-la-ola/) Just past the hermitage there is a short but technical climb, on loose terrain, which may not be for everyone. It is worth dismounting and pushing the bike a few meters because the paths that follow are wide, easy and flat. Once past the ramp, you come to a paved road that joins Bárboles with the residence of Atades next to the N232. Straight ahead, next to a field with olive trees, starts the old path from Peramán to Clavería, which, straight and flat, leads to the Clavería Bridge on the Imperial Canal of Aragón. (This road is frequented by trucks going to and from the MLN quarry, so be careful crossing it.) REMEMBER: this beautiful trail is an area frequented by people who come to walk, and not a section of the XC world championship. Pass it with respect and common sense.
