Very close to the border with Andalusia, in the Sierra Morena mountains, and within the Alcudia Valley and Sierra Madrona Natural Park, lies the municipality of Fuencaliente. It is famous for housing the cave paintings of Peñaescrita and La Batanera, declared a National Monument. It also owes its name to the hot spring that rises beneath the Church of Our Lady of Baños, which once attracted many pilgrims drawn by the curative power of its waters. This spring was declared a public asset in 1869 and continues to be a source of vitality. Add to all this its unique urban layout, and you have a town worthy of the most beautiful tourist postcard.
