The Forat de Bèrnia is an impressive place in the Sierra de Bèrnia, located in the Valencian Community, Spain. This natural tunnel, about 15 to 20 meters long, crosses the mountain range from north to south. At its widest entrance, it offers panoramic views of Altea, the Serra Gelada and the Mediterranean. The Forat de Bèrnia is presented as a spacious natural shelter that becomes a magnificent viewpoint of the Costa Blanca. Built by the Kingdom of Valencia during the time of Philip II (16th century), it is an important exponent of Italian-style Renaissance military architecture. Its function was the defense of the coast in combination with the watchtowers such as the Torre Bombarda de l'Albir, the Torre de l'Aguiló in Finestrat or the Torre de la Punta del Cavall in Racó de l'Oix (all of them visitable on other excursions). They housed military reinforcements that were sent when the fleets of Barbary corsairs were sighted by the watchmen of the watchtowers, thus preventing the invasion of coastal towns. The Berbers plundered towns and kidnapped their people who were later sold in the slave markets of Oman or Algiers. From the Fort we enjoyed the impressive views of the coast and the interior of the Marina Baixa, the towns of Altea, Afas del Pi, l'Albir, Benidorm, la Nucía and Polop. The valleys of the Guadalest and Algar Rivers, the sea of plastic. The Gelada and Cortina mountains. And the greatest thing is the fantastic Aitana Massif: and the Puig Campana (1406 m).

If you like challenges you can't miss it! A not-so-popular gem within the Marina Baja, with sustained slopes of 15% and maximums above 20%, you'll have to give it your all to be rewarded with stunning views from the top. This point is the furthest you can go since the paved road ends here.

If you want adventure and have the best views of the Guadalest valley, do not hesitate to climb to the top of Penya Alta. At 1220 meters above sea level, the summit offers wonderful views and at the same time a challenge to reach it. You can take different alternative paths with different degrees of difficulty but all very entertaining and attractive.

Els Arcs are the arch formations that have been produced due to the erosion of the limestone rock. This natural monument is located in the northern part of the Serra de la Aixortá.

Undoubtedly the star site of the Serra de Bèrnia and a place with amazing views of the coast of La Marina Baja (Altea and Benidorm). There are the ruins of the old castle and fort of Bèrnia that date back to the 16th century and that in its time served to defend against the attacks of the Ottoman Empire. It is a wonderful place and is accessed by trekking paths, although you can travel along them on a mtb with great caution because it runs along the cliff and in sectors it is a bit technical. Without a doubt, a highly recommended place!
