Beautiful path along the sea

The origin of religious architecture in San Juan de La Rambla dates back to 1530, the year in which the construction of the first hermitage began, located where the church of San Juan Bautista is today. This type of temple has been slowly built for more than four centuries with the effort of the town's inhabitants, creating a simple construction style in accordance with their possibilities. The church was built thanks to the initiative of the neighbours of the first settlements, especially Martín Rodríguez, a Portuguese settler who built a large estate near the Barranco de San Juan, and who is believed to have had the idea of building a hermitage, and also financed the main expenses for its construction. In order to be able to build it, the collaboration of the neighbours was also necessary to the extent of their possibilities. They built the primitive Hermitage of San Juan.
