Unique in the world, the Palais Idéal has inspired artists for over a century. Independent of any artistic movement, built without any architectural rules, the Palais Idéal was admired by the Surrealists. In 1969, it was classified as a Historic Monument by André Malraux, then Minister of Culture, as a work of naive art.

Small pass of the Drôme des Collines, but with a sign! It's rare.

A little confusing to get there :-) Possible to pass while riding with wider tires but on a road bike, it's too complicated. Forced to get off the bike and wet his feet :-)

Discovered a little by chance, I did not expect to miss it. These are the remains of a 15th century Franciscan convent, a little outside the village of Châteauneuf-de-Galaure in the Drôme des Collines.

Super quiet place in addition to being beautiful. Nice little climb to get there 🙂

This place is the story of a postman, Joseph Ferdinand Cheval, who in 1873 and for the following 33 years, built a dream palace in his vegetable garden. He picked up stones during his rounds with his wheelbarrow. Alone, he imagines an ideal palace, where you will find elephants, caimans, pelicans, bears, birds and many other curiosities. The Charrière site is a Franciscan convent. It is a unique place in the region. It consists of a Romanesque church which depended on Cluny from the 10th to the 12th century.
