This exceptional monument is the largest fortified mill in France. It is also called the Henri IV mill, because it belonged to Henri de Navarre, who became one of the most popular kings of France. You can visit it between April and October. To get there you have to take a splendid Romanesque bridge.

Founded in 1284, Vianne is one of the rare bastides in the Southwest to have preserved its system of fortifications: its ramparts, gates and towers, practically intact today, have resisted the assault of time and men to constitute one of the most authentic testimonies of the medieval past of Albret. To see: the Vianne garden of Gontaut-Biron (in search of the mystery of the She-Wolf of Vianne), the atypical Romanesque church, the ramparts of the bastide along the Baïse river.

Carrefour de l'Albret, Barbaste is said to be the Porte des Landes. Located on the ancient Ténarèze road which, since prehistoric times, has led men from the Pyrenees to the Garonne through Gascony, Barbaste was an important commercial crossroads.

The Barbaste mill is located on the right bank of the Gélise, a thousand meters from its confluence with the Baïse, on the territory of the commune of Nérac, in Lot-et-Garonne, in New Aquitaine. Part of the dam facilities are located in the municipality of Barbaste.

Built at the end of the 13th century and functioning as a mill, the structure also served as a fortified castle during the Wars of Religion. A function to which it seems more suited when we observe its towers and its imposing presence on the Gélise.
