The church, like many churches, offers a mixture of many different styles: Romanesque in the towers and transept, Gothic in the choir and Renaissance on the facade.

Behind the town hall there is a small park, an oasis of calm in the busy city center.

Gabriel Leroy (1834-1908) was a scholar from Melun, notably the author of the “History of Melun” (1887). A monument was erected in his honor in the garden of the town hall. The base in the form of an ancient column is reminiscent of the Gallo-Roman origins of the city. The work was created by the Melun sculptor Emile Gaulard and Canat-Nolin and inaugurated on October 24, 1909. Only the base remains, the bronze was stolen in 1943.

The fountain "La Fontaine Saint-Jean" was built in 1864 thanks to donations from Henri Lainville. The design comes from Baptiste Klagmann, a sculptor and goldsmith.
