Andlau was founded in 880 by Empress Richardis. She had been banished by her husband, Emperor Charles III, and was later canonized. Her tomb in Andlau became a place of pilgrimage. Charming and beautiful village! We stayed here for a couple of days during our bike tour, and enjoyed amazing food, wine, and hospitality while touring the picturesque landscape.

At some intersections it is still clear that a former railway line has been converted into a cycle path. Very nice cycle path, highly recommended.
