Road Surface quality is rather poor but manageable, and the view makes the climbing sorth it.

At the pass, the paved Chemin Béry forest road leads to the Col de la Vierge after 2 km and Lac des Corbeaux after 4.5 km. Driving down from the pass towards La Bresse, after 1 km you will reach a fork in the road. Turn right onto the quiet D34 A departmental road, the Route des Américains, which climbs to the Vosges ridge road, the Route des Crêtes. There it joins the Col de Rothenbach with its striking summit. The Route des Américains is 5 km long and has an elevation gain of almost 280 meters.

I agree with my predecessors. A beautiful climb through a fairytale forest. The descent was great, as I was on a gravel bike and could ignore the poor asphalt :-)

Road still closed. A detour via a hiking trail is not recommended for cycling shoes. July 17, 2025. However, the climb from the Col d'Oderen descent is beautiful. The descent is bumpy towards Bramont.

Warning: road closed! I passed through in July 2025; there was major roadworks going on, and the pass was closed without warning at the bottom. For the diehards, there is a pedestrian bypass. Check before starting the climb.
