This 19th-century church pays homage to the Anglo-Saxon hermit monk Vital, who lived in a cave in the rock beneath the church. Vital is the origin of the village of Saint-Viaud and gave it its name (Viaud = Vital).

The current church is a 19th-century building. It was erected to replace the old Sainte-Anne chapel, which was in danger of collapse, and the Saint-Philbert church, destroyed during the Vendée wars. The Sainte-Anne de Vue church is a fine example of the region's architectural and religious history.
