The Gothic Church of Our Lady in Saint-Omer (13th-15th century), cathedral of the former bishopric of Saint-Omer, with its 50-meter-high western tower (late 15th century), boasts an interesting interior: a Descent from the Cross by Peter Paul Rubens, the so-called Grand Dieu de Thérouanne (Great God of Thérouanne), a sculptural group from the facade of the former Thérouanne cathedral, which was destroyed by the troops of Emperor Charles V in 1553, old tombstones, including a cenotaph of Saint Audomarus, 12th-century floor tiles with flowers and other figurative motifs, an astronomical clock built for the chapter of the (later) cathedral between 1555 and 1559 to outdo the powerful St. Bertinus Abbey with knowledge.
