The Senlis mill was founded in the 15th century. It was one of around twenty water mills on the course of the Yerres. At the beginning of the 20th century it was purchased by the architect of the Grévin museum in Paris who added a Gothic touch. It then passed into Russian hands. From the 1960s until 2016 the mill housed dissidents from the USSR, hence its nickname. Classified as a Historic Monument, it is currently awaiting a real estate transaction.
