It's a shame the municipality has such stupid barriers, not visible in the photo. The people in charge don't allow bikes with saddlebags. No wonder cyclists are crossing the dangerous road.

On May 4, 1985, the new Rossmarkt fountain was inaugurated in the center of Alzey. It depicts the "horse of the minstrel Volker von Alzey with a vine-covered bowl" based on a design by the Neustadt artist Professor Gernot Rumpf. Volker von Alzey, who according to the Nibelungenlied was known as the "Baron of Alzey" and a "man of noble descent," was from Alzey. The minstrel and minstrel Volker, knight, was the master of a knightly retinue and standard bearer. He left his warhorse at the watering hole of the Rossmarkt and mingled with the people. The horse carries the minstrel's fiddle on one side and his shield with the coat of arms on the other.
